Monitoring Apple Macs, Printers, RAID's, Routers and other SNMP Devices

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an Internet-standard protocol for:

  • collecting and organizing information about managed devices on IP networks
  • modifying that information to change device behavior

Here is the process for creating new SNMP devices in Atera. Once created these Devices will then be available for monitoring.

1. Click the + sign in the top right of the screen to enable the dropdown menu
2. Click New SNMP
The Add Device page displays.
3. Select the company you want the device to be assigned to from the Assign to Customer drop down list

4. Select the Folder you want to append the device to from the Append To Folder drop down list

5. Select the Monitoring Agent from the drop down list. This is the designated agent within the network that will perform the sampling of the relevant ports

The Status of the monitoring agent will be populated
6. Enter the name of the device in the Name text entry box
7. Enter the Description of the device
8. Enter the Hostname / IP Address of the device
9. Enter the name of the community in the Community text entry box
10. Select the Type of the SNMP device from the drop down list
11. Set the port number of the device in the Port field
12. Select the Version number from the drop down list
13. Click Save
Note: Following the completion of steps 1 to 13, you will now need to add the specific OIDs you wish to monitor.
1. Click Add OID
2. The Add OID Value dialog displays.
3. Enter the specific OID
4. Click Discover
The discovered OID will be populated
5. Enter Description and click Add OID Value
Note:  the OIDs Values is the alert threshold. An Alert will be generated when this threshold is passed.

Monitored OIDs provides the real-time data of the specific OID. For example the current Free Memory (KB).

Note: You will receive an alert notification when the condition value is matched.
