• Backup of Exchange returns error
• Error: 'VSS error 0x800423f2: The writer's timeout expired between the Freeze and Thaw events.' when backup of Exchange returns error

Solution

• ​Happens because another product is using the VSS writer and has not completed while our product attempts to start using that same VSS writer.
• Move the backup schedule to run 15 to 30 minutes later or determine the other product using that VSS Writer and make its schedule 15 to 30 minutes earlier.
• Note: MSP Backup & Recovery uses system VSS writers, not proprietary VSS writers; any conflicts as mentioned above will involve the standard writers.
