As an Atera subscriber, you have the flexibility to choose between per-GB and per-workload models when utilizing Acronis for your data backup and protection needs.
Note: You can choose one model per customer tenant.
This article describes:
Per-workload and per-GB billing explained
Per-workload model: Billing is based on the total number of workloads (physical servers, workstations, virtual machines, etc), as well as the native cloud storage used. Acronis will not charge you for Service Provider hosted or local storage usage (and they allow for unlimited usage). This model is typically best for customers with:
- Fewer devices, systems, and applications (workloads) that require protection.
- Large amount of data per workload.
Per-GB model: Billing is based on the total cloud and local storage used. There is no limit on the number of devices you can protect. This model is usually best for customers with:
- Many devices, systems, and applications.
- Small amount of data per workload.
Both models have their advantages, and the right plan for you will depend on your needs and usage patterns.
Note: You can choose one model per customer tenant.
The Atera Cyber Cloud Calculator
The calculator lets you calculate the expected costs related to your expected usage.
Using the per-GB model, you'll be charged only for the storage used. However, the rate per GB is higher than the per-workload rate. This may still be advantageous to you if you have a large amount of data across many devices. Download the Atera Cyber Cloud Calculator to see which model fits your needs.
To use the calculator:
1. Click here to download the calculator
2. Save it to your preferred folder. Then open it.
3. Enter the number/quantity of products/services you want to purchase under a single pricing model.
The Price per unit (monthly) and Total cost will automatically generate based on the inputs provided. Check the bottom right to see the total monthly and annual costs.
4. Repeat with the other model and compare the total annual cost.
Example use cases
In the following examples, we'll focus on 'Acronis Cloud Storage at Azure/Google data centers (GB)', which is available to both per-workload and per-GB models. We'll see which model is most suitable, for the following conditions.
- Backing up 1000 GB per month over 10 workstations
- Backing up 1000 GB per month over 100 workstations
In this simple scenario, the workstations are our workloads.
Backing up 1000 GB of data over 10 workstations
Per-workload model:
- Enter the number of workstations.
- Enter the assumed GB usage.
Total = $608.22
Per-GB model:
- Enter the assumed GB usage.
Total = $1,680
In this scenario, it's a no-brainer. However, if we need to back up the same amount of data over 100 workstations...
Back up 1000 GB of data over 100 workstations
Per-workload model:
- Enter the number of workstations.
- Enter the assumed GB usage.
Total = $3,158
Per-GB model:
Same as before (as the only change is the number of workloads, the per-GB model is unaffected).
- Total = $1,680
In this scenario, the model that would be most suitable has changed. We recommend you play around with the Atera Cyber Cloud Calculator to see which setup works best for you.
