Atera's integration with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) allows you to import and sync your organization's users from Entra ID to Atera, ensuring your user data remains up-to-date. By assigning the 'User Administrator' directory role to your Atera instance in Entra ID, you'll enable password resets directly through Atera, allowing both AI Copilot and Robin to manage password resets.
Note: Robin and AI Copilot can't reset passwords for users who hold admin roles in Entra ID. This is a limit of Microsoft's User Administrator role, not of Atera. Reset those passwords directly in Entra ID.
Before you begin
- Your users or contacts must be synced from Entra ID to Atera. See Sync users and contacts from Microsoft Entra ID.
- To assign a directory role in Entra ID, you need the Global Administrator or Privileged Role Administrator role there.
- Robin sends the new password to the end user by SMS, so each user needs a mobile number on their record in Atera.
- The role is assigned once per Entra tenant. If several Atera customers share the same tenant, one assignment covers all of them, but each of those customers must be synced from Entra ID.
Assign 'User Administrator' role
Set up your Atera instance in Entra ID to enable password resets for your users via Atera.
To assign the 'User Administrator' role to Atera's Enterprise application in Entra ID:
1. Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center.
2. Go to Enterprise applications > All applications.
3. Find and select Atera.
Note: Ensure the 'Application ID' is 90657e27-59e1-4bfa-86c3-03f59b731666.
4. Click Roles and administrators.
5. Click the link "here" to assign the directory-level role.
6. Find and select User Administrator.
7. Click Add assignments.
8. Select the Atera Enterprise application. Then click Add.
Note: Ensure the 'Application ID' is 90657e27-59e1-4bfa-86c3-03f59b731666.
The Atera Enterprise application has been assigned the role of 'User Administrator'.
If password resets fail
- The user is an admin in Entra ID: this is expected. Reset the password in Entra ID directly.
- The user has no mobile number: Robin can't deliver the new password. Add the number to the user's record in Atera.
- The user isn't synced: check that the customer or site is synced from Entra ID.
