In accordance with US sales tax laws, sales tax must be charged on SaaS (Software as a Service, including Atera) products in certain states. State sales taxes are calculated based on your billing address.
As such, please note that all relevant invoices may now include a line to demonstrate the collection of sales tax for the services used under your Atera subscription and/ or any add-ons.
If your company is registered as tax-exempt or maintains a reseller certificate upload your exemption certificate in Atera (instructions below).
Note: It may take up to a week for the tax exemption to be applied to your account.
Sales tax will be added to your Atera subscription cost if you are registered in any one of the following states (which require it):
- Arizona
- District of Columbia
- Hawaii
- Kentucky
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- New Mexico
- New York
- Ohio
- Pennsylvania
- Texas
- Utah
- Washington
Upload sales tax exemption certificate
If your company is registered as tax-exempt or maintains a reseller certificate, you can upload your certificate to Atera.
To complete your exemption certificate:
Fill out the following information for the seller details:

To upload your certificate:
1. From Admin (on the sidebar), go to My account > Tax Administration.
The Tax Administration page appears.
2. Enter your Certificate expiration date.
3. Drag and drop your file, or click Browse files to upload the certificate.
Note: The certificate must be uploaded as a PDF file.
4. Click Submit.
If your certificate is approved and qualifies for tax exemption, you will be issued a refund within 14 business days.
