Network Discovery scan results include a Devices section that provides detailed information on network devices, a Reports section that displays informative graphs, and a Security section that details open ports as well as their common vulnerabilities and exposures.
Workstations and servers
Once the scan completes, you’ll see all detected devices listed in the results. For more info on setting up a scan, see Network Discovery: Set up scans
If you enabled the auto-install option within Scan settings, you can track the agent installation progress for all Windows devices directly at the end of the scan. Otherwise, you can click Add device to install it manually.
Workstation/Server information includes:
- Device name: Click to open the agent console, where you can view and manage the device (if monitored by Atera).
- Status: Shows whether the device is online or unreachable. Unreachable means the device was detected in a previous scan but not in the current one.
- Last seen: Displays when the device was last detected on the network.
- Monitored: Indicates whether the Atera Agent is installed — a check means it is, an “X” means it isn’t.
- RTT: Round-trip time (in milliseconds) showing how long it takes for data to travel to and from the device — useful for spotting network slowness. If a device is unreachable, RTT will appear as “–”. Network round-trip time has a big impact on your customer’s experience in activities involving interactive applications, like web browsing. Network administrators can use RTT to diagnose the speed and reliability of the network connection, as many web applications will disconnect if the RTT is too high. As this number can be subjective, we're not including specifics about what is considered too high.
- Device type: The device category (e.g., server, workstation).
- IP address: The device’s IP address.
- MAC address: The device’s MAC address.
- Manufacturer: The device manufacturer (e.g., Dell, HP).
- OS platform: The operating system platform (e.g., Windows).
- OS information: Detailed OS info (e.g., Windows 11 Pro x64).
- OS age: How long the operating system has been installed or in use.
Note: OS-related information is available only for domain controller scans.
Install agents on workstations and servers
You can view unmonitored devices both in the network scan results and on the site page. Look for the blue pill icon — it shows the number of detected devices available for agent installation. For info on agent installation requirements, see Prerequisites for agent installation

You can also set alerts to inform you when unmonitored devices appear in the scan results. Additionally, you can get automate agent installation and monitoring of all future discovered Windows OS devices.
To install an agent on a single device:
From Devices > Workstations/Servers, find the device and click Add device.
To install an agent on multiple devices:
From Devices > Workstations/Servers, check the boxes next to the devices. Then click Add device.
SNMP devices
If you enabled the auto-monitor option within Scan settings, you can track the monitoring progress for all SNMP devices directly at the end of the scan. Otherwise, you can click Add device to monitor it manually.
For more info on setting up a scan, see Network Discovery: Set up scans
SNMP information includes:
- Device name: The name of the SNMP device.
- Status: Indicates whether the device is online or offline.
- Last seen: When the device was last online (MM/DD/YYYY H:MM AM/PM).
- Monitoring agent: Click the dropdown menu to change the monitoring agent.
- Monitored: Shows whether the device is currently being monitored.
- Device type: The device category (e.g., server, workstation).
- IP address: The device’s IP address.
- MAC address: The device’s MAC address.
- Manufacturer: The device manufacturer (e.g., VMWare, Cisco Systems).
- Device model: The device's model name or number.
- Serial number: The unique serial number for the device
- Description: Any additional information or notes about the device.
Monitor SNMP devices
You can view unmonitored devices both in the network scan results and on the site page. Look for the blue pill icon — it shows the number of detected devices available for agent monitoring.

The monitoring agent is the designated agent within the network that will monitor the SNMP device.
You can also set alerts to inform you when unmonitored SNMP devices appear in the scan results. Additionally, you can get automate monitoring of all detected SNMP devices.
Note: The SNMP device and the chosen monitoring agent must be online (and within the same subnet).
To monitor a single SNMP device:
1. From Devices > SNMP, find the device and click Add device.
The Add SNMP device window appears.
2. Select the device type and SNMP Template for customized monitoring (if applicable). These are templates that you create in Atera to monitor specific SNMP device types. Learn more about SNMP Templates
3. Click Add.
To monitor multiple SNMP devices:
From Devices > Workstations/Servers, check the boxes next to the devices. Then click Add device.
The Add SNMP device window appears.

Storage devices
For more info on setting up a scan, see Network Discovery: Set up scans
The Storage category (relevant only for domain controller scans) displays detailed information on network storage, including:
- Device name: The name of the detected storage device.
- Disk type: The type of drive (e.g., HDD, SSD).
- Manufacturer: The drive manufacturer.
- Model: The model name or number of the disk.
- Serial number: The unique identifier assigned to the disk.
- Partitions: The number of partitions on the disk.
- Media type: Indicates whether the drive is fixed, removable, or virtual.
- Interface: The disk interface type (e.g., SATA, NVMe).
- # Bad sectors: The number of bad sectors detected on the disk.
- Disk age: How long the disk has been in use.
- Disk usage(GB)/Total(GB): The used versus total storage capacity.
- Disk usage (%): The percentage of total disk space currently in use.
Reports
The Reports section displays several useful graphs so you can see network information at-a-glance. Workgroup (workstation) and domain controller scans differ somewhat in that domain scans offer some additional graphs and information ('OS aging' and 'Storage').
If the scanning agent is offline or the scan is inactive, the information shown reflects the results of the last completed scan.
The Reports tab includes the following interactive graphs:
- Device types: Shows the distribution of device types (workstations, servers, and other).
- Workstation/Server status: Displays device availability — online or unreachable.
- OS platform: Breaks down detected operating systems (Windows, unknown, or other).
- Monitoring status: Indicates whether devices are monitored or unmonitored.
-
OS aging: Categorizes devices by OS age.
- "New": = 1-51 months
- "Aging": = 52-59 months
- "Upgrade me": = 60+ months
- Storage: Shows storage usage and device distribution by type.
Note:
- 'OS aging' and 'Storage' are available via domain controller scans only.
- An 'Unreachable' status for Workstation/Server and 'OS aging' graphs indicates a communication failure between Atera's servers and the Atera Agent. This status can appear for many reasons (e.g., firewall or antivirus blocking, active directory issues, etc.), and does not necessarily indicate that the device is offline.
- Clicking on a graph legend removes the parameter from the graph (or adds it back in).
Security
The security section highlights network security vulnerabilities (open ports and potential CVEs) so you can make sure your customer networks stay safe and secure. For more info, please see Network Discovery: Security scans
Remove devices from scan results
Check the boxes next to the devices you want to remove. Then click Remove from list.
Note: Online devices may reappear if detected in future scans.
Export results
The complete scan results, including the Workstations/Servers, SNMP, and Storage device sections can be exported as an Excel file by clicking the Export XLS button.
Prerequisites for agent installation
The following criteria must be met for successful agent installation:
- The device(s) must be Windows OS.
- For the installation of the Atera Agent, both the scanning agent and your device must be within the same subnet. Should they be on different subnets, installation becomes impossible.
- Configure the recommended settings according to the Optimal Network Settings article.
- WinRM for WMI monitoring should be enabled on your customers' domain networks (where applicable). You can also enable it automatically in Atera when initiating a DC scan, by selecting the checkbox (below). When selected, the GPO will instruct all Windows OS network devices to open the WMI protocol. The GPO is implemented 1-2 hours after the scan has begun.
Additionally, WinRM for WMI monitoring can be enabled automatically when attempting to add a device to Atera monitoring (the scan detects when it is disabled).
Note: The feature applies to Windows Server 2012 or later.
