Customize and assign threshold profiles to monitor specified events across your devices and networks. Whenever a monitored item exceeds its specified threshold, an alert is generated. These alerts can be found in various places within the Atera app, including the Dashboard, Alerts page, Site page > Alerts tab, and within tickets (if assigned to an alert). Configure alert settings to define automatic responses to alerts, based on severity (information, warning, or critical) and site.

Preset events
Stay informed about key activities on Windows devices. Set up alerts for software installations, uninstalls, and failed logins.
Note: Preset threshold items are available for Windows devices only.
You can monitor the following preset events:
- Software installed: Get alerts when software is successfully installed (monitors event IDs MsiInstaller&11707, MsiInstaller&1033).
- Software uninstalled: Get alerts when existing software is uninstalled (monitors event IDs MsiInstaller&11724, MsiInstaller&1034).
- Failed login attempts: Get alerts when 3 failed login attempts occur within 5 minutes.
Custom events
Custom events let you create threshold-based monitors tailored to your environment. Each item includes a name, category, and severity level, and displays the supported operating systems. You can assign up to 3 auto-healing scripts to any custom item, but these scripts will only execute on Windows and Mac devices if the threshold is triggered.
Security
Stay ahead of threats by monitoring antivirus status, firewall activity, and login behavior for Windows devices.
- Firewall inactive: Detects if the Bitdefender firewall is disabled.
-
Failed login attempts: Watches for potential brute force attempts. Set the number of failed attempts over a specified time period.
Performance and health
Keeps tabs on system performance, uptime, and essential services across your Windows, Mac, and Linux devices.
-
CPU load: Monitors how much load the processor is under. Set the percentage and time period. An alert will be generated after each interval (with a delay of up to 2 minutes). Generated alerts will include information about the top 3 apps causing the issue. Available for Windows, Mac, and Linux devices.
-
CPU temperature: Monitors processor heat. Set the temperature (Celsius) and time period. Available for Windows and Mac devices.
-
Memory usage: Monitors RAM usage. Set the percentage and time period. Available for Windows and Mac devices. Generated alerts will include information about the top 3 apps causing the issue.
-
Device uptime: Checks how long the device has been on without restarting. Set the duration (1–365 days). Available for Windows devices.
-
Process monitoring: Keeps tabs on a specific running process. Enter the process name. Available for Windows and Mac devices.
-
Service state: Monitors whether a specific Windows service is running. Select the service name and whether to alert if the service doesn't exist. Available for Windows devices.
Storage and disk
Monitors disk usage, temperature, and overall health to help prevent storage issues across your Windows, Mac, and Linux devices.
- Disk active time: Monitors how much time the disk is actively reading or writing. High active time means the drive is busy, especially on traditional hard drives where internal parts work harder to access scattered (fragmented) data — often with low data transfer speed. Set the usage percentage. Available for Windows devices.
-
Disk alerts (S.M.A.R.T): Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology is a system in HDDs and SSDs that monitors drive reliability. It helps anticipate hardware failures by detecting and reporting various indicators. When S.M.A.R.T. data indicates a possible imminent drive failure, software running on the host system can notify an Atera Agent so the stored data can be copied to another storage device, preventing data loss, and the failing drive can be replaced. Available for Windows devices. The following SSD vendors and attributes are supported:
-
Intel: E8 - Endurance remaining or available reserved space.
-
Plextor: E8 - Endurance remaining or available reserved space.
-
Sandisk: E8 - Endurance remaining or available reserved space.
-
Mtron: BB - Reported uncorrectable errors.
-
Samsung: B3 - Used reserved block count total, B4 - Unused reserved block count total.
-
Indilinx: D1 - Offline seek performance.
-
Sandforce: E7 - Remaining lifespan (SSDs) or temperature.
-
Corsair: E7 - Remaining lifespan (SSDs) or temperature.
-
Kingston: E7 - Remaining lifespan (SSDs) or temperature.
-
JMicron: AA - Available reserved space.
-
Micron: CA - Data address mark errors or TA counter increased.
-
Ocz: E9 - Media wearout indicator (SSDs) or power-on hours.
-
OczVector: E9 - Media wearout indicator (SSDs) or power-on hours.
-
-
Hard disk usage: Monitors storage usage in percent or GB. You can monitor just the system drive or all connected drives. Available for Windows, Mac, and Linux devices.
-
Hard disk temperature: Monitors drive heat. Set the temperature and time period. Available for Windows devices.
System events
Gives visibility into system and application events to support better troubleshooting and log management for your Windows devices. For more information, see Monitor Windows Events
-
Events applications: Monitors logs from installed applications and services.
-
Events by source: Monitors logs from a selected event source folder. Set the Windows event severities to alert levels in Atera.
-
Events security: Monitors security-related events, including login attempts and policy changes.
-
Events setup: Monitors setup and installation logs, such as driver and update activity.
-
Events system: Monitors system-level events related to hardware, drivers, and OS services.
Note:
- The following system event items collect all Atera Agent events by default (unless exclusions are set), which may generate a high volume of alerts. To target specific events only, use the 'Events by source' threshold item.
- There's a 150-character limit for source names and event IDs. If you exceed this limit, split them into multiple threshold item.
Exchange monitoring
Helps track mailbox size, message flow, and service health for your Windows devices.
-
Exchange item count size: Monitors the number of items in Exchange. Set a time period and item count.
-
Exchange max mailbox size: Checks mailbox size limits. Set the size in GB.
-
Exchange queue size: Tracks mail queue size. Set the time period and size in MB.
-
Exchange state: Monitors if the Exchange service is up and running.
-
Exchange storage size: Keeps an eye on mailbox database size. Set the size in GB.
Network and services
Monitors network activity and Windows service status to ensure smooth operation.
-
Network bandwidth: Monitors how much data is being used. Set the usage in MB. Generated alerts will include information about the top 3 apps causing the issue.
Hardware monitoring
Monitors physical device health, including fan speed, temperature, and battery condition.
-
Battery health: Monitors battery condition and degradation. Set the expected max capacity. Available for Windows devices.
-
Motherboard fans (CPU, System): Monitors fan speeds in rounds per minute (RPM). Set the time period and RPM. Available for Windows and Mac devices.
-
Motherboard temperatures: Monitors the temperature of the motherboard. Set the temperature and time period. Available for Windows and Mac devices.
Script-based events
Use threshold profiles in combination with scripts to monitor specific values and trigger alerts when certain conditions are met. You can assign up to 3 auto-healing scripts to any custom item, but these scripts will only execute on Windows and Mac devices if the threshold is triggered. For more information on creating script-based threshold items, see Script-based threshold monitoring
Create a threshold item
Create threshold items to monitor key performance indicators across your devices. You can choose from preset options, define custom conditions, or use script-based items for advanced monitoring. Each item helps you track what matters and trigger alerts when needed. For more information, see Create or edit an alert threshold profile
