This guide is designed to assist you and your customers in installing the Atera agent on Mac devices. There are two methods available for installing the Atera agent on Mac devices: one using the Terminal command and the other using the agent installer.
To begin installing the Atera agent on a Mac device, the first step is to create the installer or copy the terminal command from the dashboard. Please follow the steps outlined in this article:
Agent installer method
Once you've created the installer, you'll need to share it with your customers using a file-sharing website or a similar method. Once the installer has been downloaded on the desired device, follow the steps listed below:
1. On your Mac device, locate the AteraAgentInstaller.pkg file, then double-click on it.
2. The Install AteraAgent windows will appear, now simply click on Continue.
3. On the next window, simply click on Install.
4. The installation will began, now you will be required to add the password for your local admin account, then simply click on Install.
5. Once the installation is complete, a new window will appear. Here, you simply need to enter the email address of one of the support technicians. Once done, simply click on Save.
Important note: Entering the password of the technician account is not required. If no password is entered, the device will be assigned under the Unassigned customer.
All done, the Atera Agent is installed on the device.
Terminal command installation
This method is the recommended approach for installing the Atera agent on Mac devices. Once you have the command on the desired device, please follow the steps listed below.
1. Press ⌘ (cmd) + Space, and Spotlight Search will open.
2. Here, type in Terminal, then click on the first option.
3. The Terminal window will open, here, simply paste the Terminal command generated within Atera, then press Enter.
4. You will be prompted to add the local admin password, once done, click on Enter.
Note: Please be aware that the Terminal CLI does not show if something was typed, simply add the password and press Enter.
5. Once you have added the local admin password, new lines will be generated automatically. At the end, you will see Installer: The upgrade was successful.
All done, the agent has been installed on your device.
